Liputan7Aktual.com | Breaking News, – Russian forces have launched a new wave of drone and air strikes across northeastern Ukraine, killing at least four people and injuring more than a dozen others, according to regional authorities.
The governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleh Syniehubov, confirmed that the attacks targeted the city and at least 11 surrounding towns and villages within the past 24 hours. Emergency services reported significant damage to residential areas and infrastructure.
In a separate overnight incident, a Russian drone strike hit a residential building in the Sumy region, injuring at least 11 people, including a child. Ukrainian authorities said a 16-storey apartment building caught fire after being struck, forcing an urgent evacuation of residents.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service stated that rescue teams acted swiftly to contain the blaze and evacuate civilians from the burning structure. Firefighters later confirmed that the fire had been extinguished, while search and rescue operations continued.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that air defense systems successfully intercepted the majority of incoming drones. Out of 286 drones launched by Russian forces overnight, approximately 260 were “shot down or neutralized” across multiple regions, including the north, south, east, and central parts of the country.
Despite these defensive efforts, officials confirmed that at least 11 drones managed to hit 10 different locations, causing further destruction. Debris from intercepted drones was also recorded in at least six areas, posing additional risks to civilians.
Authorities have launched investigations into the attacks, with law enforcement agencies documenting damage and collecting evidence. Ukrainian officials have described the strikes as potential war crimes due to their impact on civilian infrastructure and residential zones.
The latest escalation highlights the ongoing intensity of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with civilians continuing to bear the brunt of aerial bombardments.
