Israeli Airstrikes Rock Beirut, 217 Reported Dead

Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, was shaken by a series of massive explosions after Israeli military airstrikes struck the city from Friday night into early Saturday local time.

The strikes reportedly targeted the southern outskirts of Beirut, an area Israel claims is a stronghold of the Hezbollah group.

Two powerful blasts sent thick plumes of smoke rising over nearby high-rise buildings, creating panic among residents in surrounding neighborhoods.

Although Israel said the attacks were aimed at Hezbollah positions, the area is also known to be a densely populated residential district where hundreds of thousands of civilians live.

According to the latest data from Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, at least 217 people were reported killed, while more than 700 others were injured in the incident.
